Lost in France The Remarkable Life and Death of Leigh Roose Football's First Superstar

A fascinating biography of Leigh Richmond Roose, the Welsh international goalkeeper who was one of Britain's most famous sportsmen in the early part of the 20th Century. Roose was a showman on the field of play, widely regarded as the finest goalkeeper of his generation and enjoyed superstar status with supporters, the media and members of the opposite sex! An amateur all his career, Roose played for a number of clubs including Stoke City, Everton and Sunderland before being killed in 1916 at the age of just 38 in the trenches of the Somme.
